Did you know that there are veterinary specialists? There is a veterinary counterpart to almost every human medical specialist. These doctors have studied additional years to become extremely proficient in their particular field. For example, there are certified surgeons that perform extensive orthopedic, soft tissue, and spinal surgery. There are veterinary dentists that perform root canals, teeth extractions, and tooth remodeling. There are also certified internal medical specialists that are highly trained at treating diabetes, Cushings disease, and inflammatory bowel disease just to name a few. If you visit any veterinary teaching hospital, you will also find radiologists, cardiologists, oncologists, emergency medicine specialists, neurologists, anesthesiologists, urologists…the list is endless. If you are think your pet may benefit from a referral, ask your veterinarian for information on your local specialists!
